The BACKPACK BLUES Benefit on April 26 was a rousing success, and we are so thankful to all of our supporters!
NGK, The Catapults, CeeJazz Soul, Church on Wheels, Chuck Berry J, Bob Lohr, and drummer extraordinaire Keith Robinson put on a show to beat all shows! St Louis great Kim Massie was rehearsing with her band before our event started, and she was so caught up in our cause and the passion of the supporters, that she graced us with a three-song set that had everyone cheering.
From the time the doors opened at 1:00 until the last of the bands finished at about 7:00, people flowed in to be part of our first benefit. We had a number of new people discover BACK@YOU when they came through the doors looking for great music. Some came planning to stay for a short time and stayed the whole afternoon, donating throughout the festivities.
With your support, we raised over $2000 to buy backpacks for our homeless neighbors! We also collected a box full of donated items for our backpacks.
This was our first benefit, but it set a high bar for what will be an annual event.
To those of you that were there, we are so grateful to have you in our community of caring! To those that donated items to help us raise funds, we thank you and appreciate having you onboard!
To the bands that donated their time and talents, we don't have enough words to tell you how wonderful we think you are! You worked so hard for so many long hours rehearsing before our event, and then you came and performed for free to help us raise money! You all rock!
To BB’s, thank you for providing such an amazing venue to hold our event and allowing us to take over for the day. We also thank Dani, our amazing bartender! She took care of everything and everybody at the bar and did it with a smile and a great attitude!
And last, but not least, to Keith Robinson who worked tirelessly to put this all together and make sure it happened, I am so glad you are my friend and a friend to BACK@YOU and our mission! Next year will be even better!
