BACKPACK BLUES Benefit 2016 Draws 250% of 2015 Event’s Total! The 2nd Annual BACKPACK BLUES Benefit knocked it out of the park this year! We managed to more than double last year’s amount raised, for an incredible total of $5157!! That will go a long way to filling the 400 backpacks we will distribute to our homeless neighbors in St. Louis in 2016. Thanks to one and all!
We had such overwhelming success thanks to the tireless efforts of Keith Robinson of KR Production. As a drummer who is known by all the greats of blues, R&B, and soul, he produces shows that overflow with amazing talent.
Renee Smith performed an hour-long set after performing the day before at the grand opening for the National Blues Museum. We felt so lucky to have her volunteer her time and her talents for our benefit, and she had people on their feet!
NGK Band brought the house down with some great blues, peppered with a little R&B. The members of this band have played with everyone from James Brown, to Chuck Berry, to Oliver Saine, to Johnny Johnson. We are talking about the best of the best!
With the grand opening of the National Blues Museum in St. Louis the day before our event, a lot of people who love the blues were in from out of town, and many were still in town and trying to cram in one more day of great music. Along with St. Louis locals, they flocked to BB’s Jazz, Blues, and Soup to keep the party going, and we had crowds flowing through the door and filling the two levels of the club from the minute we opened.
Local businesses also donated many generous items for our silent auction, including hotel stays, restaurant gift certificates, beautiful jewelry, and an Epiphone electric guitar signed by Charlie Daniels that had a bidding war going strong throughout the day. Please check out these great businesses on our Partners page, and we hope you will support them as they support us.
We also owe a big thanks to St. Louis photographer Steven Petersen for his wonderful photographs of the event from start to finish. We treasure his contribution, and it will keep the memory of this great event alive.
In our second year, we want to accomplish so much. And with your help, we will do it all. We are doubling the number of backpacks we will distribute, from 200 last year to 400 this year, and that means we need twice as much of everything from scarves to hygiene bags and everything in between. We will keep hosting great events that showcase local talent to support our mission, and we hope to see your continued support along the way.
