It is quickly coming up on our 4th annual backpack distribution on October 28. We have come a long way since 2014 when four of us distributed 20 backpacks bought at Five Below and filled with a few items and a handmade scarf that I crocheted during Cardinal baseball season. Here we are in 2018, partnering with Citypak Project with their backpacks specially designed for those experiencing homelessness, and distributing 500 backpacks with over 50 volunteers and beautiful scarves from all over the country!

We are proud to be distributing 300 of our backpacks to 10 nonprofits (Americorp, Calvary Missionary, Epworth, Harbor Community Church, Jefferson County Rescue Mission, Paraquad, Places for People, PotBangerz, Restoration House, and Youth in Need) who will be able to distribute our backpacks as needed through the winter. The City of St. Louis is working with us again this year, and we are excited to be distributing 200 backpacks in “City Hall West” at 1520 Market Street.

Volunteers are already registering through Facebook and Twitter to volunteer for our backpack stuffing on October 27, and at Volunteer Match for our distribution on October 28. We are excited to have Ignite Theater Company volunteering with us for the third straight year, and we look forward to having other groups join us.

We are hoping to see many of you on October 27 and 28. Volunteers who have returned year after year tell us it changed their lives. Making a difference to those who have less makes a difference in who we are as people.

None of this would be possible if it weren’t for our partners and our supporters. Year after year they and you have shown how much you care about our neighbors experiencing homelessness and how BACK@YOU is helping them. This is truly a group effort, and we are glad to have all of you right here with us.
